Event Description

This talk explores the world of the Impressionists, a late 19th Century radical group of Parisian painters who rebelled against classical subject matter and the academic painting techniques that prevailed at the time. These artists embraced modernity, attempting to create works that reflected the truth of the world in which they lived. However, they were not attempting to paint a reflection of real life, but offered an ‘impression’ of what the person, light, atmosphere, object or landscape looked like to them. They tried to capture the movement and life of what they saw and present it to the viewer as if it were happening before our eyes. These artists celebrated light and its effects, developing a new way of seeing the world, by seeking to capture pure visual sensation. Notable stars discussed include Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, Morrisot, Pisarro and Sisley.

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!

Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy the event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.
