Event Description

Whether you love reading and discussing literature, but don’t have a lot of time on your hands, or you’re particularly interested in short fiction, why not join us for Short Story Club?

Like a book club – only with less to read! – this monthly social event brings literature lovers together to talk about a short story (or two): including what we like about it, what we don’t, how it was crafted, and even some of the historical context surrounding it. There will also be a chance to nominate a story for upcoming sessions.

This is an ideal event for readers, writers, and even those just in the mood for a chat.

The article below will hopefully give you a good idea of what we've covered in past sessions:https://restless.co.uk/leisure-and-lifestyle/art-and-culture/tales-from-the-rest-less-short-story-club-2023-24/

October:

For our October 2024 session, we’ll be looking at two scary/horror stories to tie in with Halloween.

The first is a ghost(ish) story by Guy de Maupassant called ‘The Horla’, and the second is the eerie horror classic ‘The Lottery’ by Shirely Jackson.

We’ve specifically chosen stories that aren’t too intense (in terms of violence, horror, etc.), though they’re somewhat unsettling in their own way, so please be warned. You can access both by following the links below.

Our November session will focus on one or two stories by Eudora Welty, which we’ll share here at least two weeks before the session.

  • Duration: 60 mins

More Information

What if I can’t make the event?

If a recording’s available for the event, you can still register for it and we will send you an email with a link to a recording shortly after it ends.

Will my camera be on and will I be visible to the other people?

Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy the event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.

How do I watch the live event?

Rest Less events are hosted on Zoom, a computer application that allows you to attend online events just by clicking a link. For detailed instructions, please go to our "FAQ" page, which you can find a link to in the nav bar at the top of the page.

How do I sign-up for and access the recording? (Recorded events only)

Book the event as normal (as if you are attending live). After the event ends you will automatically receive a post-event email with a link to the recording, as long as the event was recorded. You do not need to do anything else and there is no separate booking process for recordings only. Please note it can take up to 24 hours for Zoom to process recordings.
