Event Description

What knowledge and resources are you using to maintain your wellbeing after work/career to live a fulfilled, happy life?

Evidence shows that without planning to ensure a happy and fulfilled next chapter, after one year those who retire can feel isolated and depressed. Isolation is proven to be as harmful as heart disease and stroke. Preparation to maintain well-being is as important as preparing your finances.

This online workshop will assist you with the move into the next chapter, whether you are closing the door completely and moving to something different, taking a different direction, or continuing with the same path but in a less stressful manner with reduced hours and a clear understanding of what that may look like. Within the workshop, there will be time to look at the ending, acknowledge and celebrate it, and use some tools to explore what brings joy into your life and what you want and don’t want moving forward. The workshop will look at the evidence of what makes for a happy retirement, some of the pitfalls, and what is contained in a retirement plan that promotes wellbeing.

Objectives:

  • Understanding what you want (and don’t want) from retirement
  • Celebration of your working life
  • Understanding some of the wellbeing models
  • Creation of an individual visual or written plan

Purpose:

  • Increase your self-awareness and begin to design the retirement that best reflects who you are and who you want to be.
  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)

Meet the Host, Karen Krawczyk

I have over 30 years as a clinician (Speech and Language Therapist) / senior manager working in the NHS. The last seventeen years I was employed by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in a variety of roles.

I helped develop and taught at postgraduate level at Manchester Metropolitan University in my specialist area. I also led a national quality improvement project which incorporated change management.

In my final years with the NHS, I managed multidisciplinary AHP teams. I also managed the Health Improvement team and a team supporting refugees from Syria and Afghanistan under the UK Home Office resettlement scheme.

I am a published author, writing articles in professional journals and a chapter in the book Speech and Language Therapy Issues in Professional Practice.

Currently, I am a Tutor for North Ayrshire Wellbeing and Recovery College, designing and delivering a variety of workshops. I have also provided Facebook content for NAWARC. I have been delivering successful workshops mainly online for NAWARC for the past four years.

I am a Trustee for the South East Integration Network within South East Glasgow, which has over 90 members and organisations covering deprived and marginalised communities. I also volunteer for Smartworks Scotland, providing interview and career coaching.

I am also self-employed as a Coach with an International Coaching Federation-approved qualification. I am passionate about empowering others, whether they be patients, staff, colleagues, students, or clients. I am committed to continuous learning.

Since leaving the NHS, I have undertaken:

  • A 6-day Facilitation Course from Kinharvie Institute (2019)
  • A 6-day Gestalt Life Coaching course accredited by the International Coaching Federation (2021)

I am a member of the Glasgow Coaching Hub. I have organised and led three Street Wisdom events in Glasgow.
