Event Description

Have you ever wanted to learn a musical instrument? Have you got a dusty ukulele lying around in your home? If the answer is YES then come and join our beginner ukulele 6 week series. This will all be done through play and will include a number of songs from different decades and genres. Each week we will look at melody and chords and will build on what we have learnt the week before.

Ahead of the course, please use this video from Tara to familiarise yourself with tuning your ukulele: https://youtu.be/nJ82KqoX5r8

As this course is a progressive course, we ask attendees to sign up to all 4 sessions. If joining later in the course, please email [email protected] to receive a link to catch-up on previous sessions missed via recordings.

WEEK ONE (13/01): The basics - how to hold the ukulele, how to tune, naming parts of the ukulele, the musical alphabet and familiarising yourself with the fretboard. Arpeggio 1 and your first ukulele chord - C

WEEK TWO (20/01): Your first Pentatonic Scale. Chords of the week C7 and F. Includes songs ie. Spoonful of Sugar, Jambalaya, You Never Can Tell

WEEK THREE (27/01): Lets build a melody based on last weeks pentatonic scale. Chords of the week Am and Dm. Includes songs ie. Wake Me Up, Don’t Worry Be Happy, Marry You

JAMMING SESSION (03/02)

WEEK 4 (10/02): We will continue looking at melodies using the C major scale. G is this weeks chord of the week. We will look at how this fabulous chord can be moved up and down the fretboard! Songs will include some rock and country classics!

WEEK 5 (17/02): We will look at how we can use melody in an ensemble. Our chord of the week will be Em. Songs will include some pop and folk

WEEK 6 (24/02): Our melody work will look at adding some riffs to songs that we have already learnt. We will look at adding some more fancy strumming and discuss how the chords that we have learnt so far all work together making it easier to memorise songs. We will also look at how to transpose a song to fit our vocal range

JAMMING SESSION (03/03)

Meet the Host, Tara Maysey from the Ukulele Project

Tara Maysey is passionate about the Ukulele and honestly believes she has the best job in the world teaching the ukulele to people of all ages from 3 years old to 87! From classrooms, to online to pubs and festivals you can’t help but smile when you hear the ukulele. In her 12 years of teaching music Tara noticed that the ukulele was brilliant at bringing people together and the friendships made inspired her to set up a not for profit with the aim of tackling loneliness one ukulele at a time!
