Event Description
Nowadays Eyam is a lovely rural English village set in the beautiful scenery of the Peak District. But it is famous for the story of its people's courage and sacrifice centuries ago. In 1665, a Bubonic Plague outbreak was sweeping through England. At Eyam, the villagers chose to isolate their entire community to prevent it spreading. In this talk, we will be discovering more about the village and I'll be telling the tragic and heroic stories of its sacrifice during the plague year and celebrating the people behind them.
The story of Eyam is fascinating history and a tale of humanity that resonates more than ever today.
