- DURATION 60 mins
Event Description
How did a tiny Saxon village become the world's first great manufacturing city? This talk traces the history of Birmingham, from its very humble beginnings to its position as England's second city. It's a story of geography, politics and most of all human ingenuity that takes us from the first medieval markets to the English Civil War to the Industrial Revolution and beyond. We'll be discovering the key people, ideas and events that helped Birmingham on its journey towards becoming the "City of 1000 Trades" and the "Workshop of the World". We'll look at some of the city's most important inventions and most iconic products, and take a look at Birmingham today and how it's shaping up for the future.
