Event Description

Do you enjoy using words and writing to express yourself? Would you like to be more in touch with your ideas and feelings? Or would you like to learn more about using journaling and writing to support your wellbeing? Then come along and find out more at this friendly and informative session.

Using guided exercises and a range of writing prompts, we will explore the evidence behind the benefits of journaling and discover the best ways to establish and maintain a journaling practice. We will use poetry, pictures, photos and objects to inspire techniques for writing and journaling that you can use in daily life.

Exploring journaling as a creative tool for self-awareness and personal development, we will see how it can be used to recover old memories. It can also open up new ways of thinking and help us to create insights, growth and healing. This aids self-reflection and can stimulate problem solving in both personal and professional life.

There will be opportunities to share your writing in the group, but no pressure to do so if that doesn’t feel comfortable. No previous experience is necessary – all of us can gain confidence and increase our wellbeing through developing skills in creative writing and journaling. Just come along with a pen and paper and join us ready to explore new perspectives.

  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (a recording will be available)

Meet the Host, Frances Owen

Frances Owen has been facilitating online and in-person Writing for Wellbeing and Journaling courses with the Workers’ Educational Association and local community groups for a number of years. These courses focus on creative writing and journaling which have been proven to increase wellbeing and enable people to reconnect with their creativity and lifelong learning.

Now retired from a career in public health and living in Salisbury, Frances is working on her first poetry pamphlet and a memoir. She workshops her poetry with Trowbridge Stanza and other writing groups and has had work published in various poetry journals. Frances also runs a monthly poetry session at a local dementia daycare centre. She is an elected Governor at Salisbury Foundation NHS Trust, a volunteer at Salisbury Museum and a (partially lapsed) Pilates devotee.
