Event Description

The civilizations of the ancient Mediterranean include not just the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.  There were the Neolithic megalithic temple builders on Malta, the labyrinth creating Minoans, warrior Mycenaeans, traders extraordinaire Phoenicians and skilful Etruscans, amongst others.  Every culture was distinctive and full of vibrant life; This course will untangle these cultures and ease you through the ebb and flow of the civilizations around the Mediterranean; you’ll soon be able to identify easily whose art or architecture are whose.

A tour of the Mediterranean is a visit into the past; ancient sites are littered with ruined architecture and art, and museums are full of works of art testifying to once great civilisations.

Join Gillian Hovell, known professionally as ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’, for a stunning richly illustrated tour of these civilizations of the ancient Mediterranean.  Discover who and when those civilisations were and how they fit together into a ‘big picture’.

Be guided by Gillian, an archaeologist who lectures on tours and cruises around the Med, helping guests to truly see the sites with their own eyes.  You’ll never look at ancient sites in the same way again
