Why become a Mirthy host?

What do you need to become a Mirthy host?

FAQs

How much will speakers be paid for talks?

Speakers will be paid £75 for every booking and each booking will be a live Zoom talk followed by a Q&A, unless otherwise specified.

How long should talks be?

Talks should be around 50 minutes long to allow time for a 10 minute Q&A, keeping the event within the hour.

How do I add a new talk to the website?

If you have already given a talk with Mirthy and are a confirmed Mirthy speaker, you simply need to send Abbie a title and c. 100-word description ([email protected]) of the talk you want to add to the catalogue. I will be in touch with any questions and we can schedule a Zoom call if needed.

How do I give a talk on Zoom?

Most speakers will present their talk accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. On Zoom, you can share your screen so that the audience will be able to see both your video and your slides.

There will be a training session on Monday 28th June 3 - 4:30 pm . For an invitation to this event, please email [email protected]

What topics are you looking for?

We are currently looking for more travel talks, either about places in the UK or abroad. We would also like more talks on gardening and nature generally (perhaps foraging and rewilding).

We would also welcome talks or workshops about cultural traditions and festivals besides Christmas over the next few months (including but not limited to Divali, Hannukah, Winter Solstice, Day of the Dead, and Chinese New Year).

What makes a speaker a ‘Mirthy speaker’?

Mirthy speakers are the highest quality speakers. They are confident and comfortable in front of a camera, highly knowledgeable on their chosen topics, and warm yet informative public speakers. Within our community of public speakers, there are performers, tour guides, presenters and toastmasters providing a huge variety of styles of presentation.

If you are interested in becoming a Mirthy speaker, please send an email to [email protected] detailing the talks you offer (titles and c.100 word descriptions).

How to apply?

Send an email to [email protected] outlining what kind of event you want to host and any relevant experience you have. We welcome applications from everyone of all levels of experience. If you feel like you want to try something new, get in touch! We’d love to hear from you.

We particularly welcome applications from women and those from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, as women, BAME and disabled people are currently under-represented among our hosts.
