Event Description

In this series of talks to mark Women's History Month, Shakespeare specialist Anna Malzy will be guiding you through some of Shakespeare's greatest women. Each week the focus will be on a different play, looking first at the main female character, and then at the other, lesser known women who surround them. The talks will analyse the characters themselves, how views and interpretations of them have changed over the years, some performance history, and of course a look at some of these characters' most famous lines and speeches (which brave participants may be asked to read!)

Join us for a celebration of some of the most enduring, tragic, complex, and powerful characters in literature.

1. Cleopatra and the women of Antony and Cleopatra
2. Rosalind and the women of As You Like It
3. Lady Macbeth and the women of Macbeth
4. Portia and the women of Merchant of Venice
5. Beatrice and the women of Much Ado About Nothing

  • Duration: 60 mins x 5
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (a recording will be available)

Meet the Host, Anna Malzy

Anna Malzy has been around Shakespeare from an early age, having fallen in love with him when playing one of Titania’s fairies aged about 10. She is now an associate artist with Shakespeare Link, running online and schools workshops, as well as helping produce events. She is based in the south of France with her partner, baby, and their sausage dog Charlie, and works remotely as a teacher and translator.
