Event Description

So, what’s the fuss about Vietnam? Perhaps it’s the UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as Halong Bay, where you can take a luxury cruise through emerald waters surrounded by magnificent towering limestone formations. Or Hoi An, where you can meander through the charming streets of a picturesque ancient port town. From here, take the scenic route along the coastal highway, through the mountains, to reach Hue, the ancient capital and Imperial City. If you fancy trekking in the hills and getting closer to different ethnic communities, you might decide to detour to Sapa. Next stop, Hanoi, with its fabulous Old Quarter dominated by the mystical Hoan Kiem Lake and unique museums showcasing the heritage, culture, and people. You can also explore more recent history in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). But it’s not all about the past! HCMC is a vibrant, bustling modern city with a lively nightlife. Throughout your journey, you'll embark on a gastronomical adventure through Vietnamese cuisine. Sample pho, banh mi, banh khot, and ca phe trung! Did you know Vietnam has an amazing coffee culture that’s been around much longer than Starbucks? Have I whetted your appetite? Do you want to know more?

Meet the Host, Hem Patel - CEO, Bespoke Getaways

I was born and educated in the UK, but Asia has always had a great influence on my life. My parents arrived in England from India during the 1950s. I always wanted to travel and see the world from a very early age. I first went to India in 1970 and I think this began my love affair with Asia. What makes travelling for me so exciting and rewarding is experiencing new things, exploring different places, meeting interesting people, and discovering the diverse culture and the exotic food.

I have had a successful career, working for a number of world class retailers. During the last 20 years, accompanied by my family, I have had senior leadership roles in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. My focus was primarily on the domestic markets, and the teams I built with were all local employees. To be successful in my role required a deep understanding of local culture, and the needs of local customers. I have travelled extensively throughout Asia for both business and pleasure. As a result, I have acquired a detailed local knowledge and understanding of the SE Asian countries and the people, all of which are individual and unique.

Testimonial

  • I’ve been on the holiday of a lifetime for the last 3 weeks

If you’ve ever wanted to go to Asia or India but are not sure of the why, when and how then Bespoke Getaways might be just be the answer you’re looking for.

He organised everything, from start to finish. All we had to do was sort out our flights from the UK and back again. Everything else ran like clockwork; all internal flights, phone sim cards, car rentals (he drove), excursions, trips, shows, sights, restaurants, taxis, tuk-tuks….the lot! He met us at the airport, waved us goodbye at the airport and in-between we just went with the flow.

  • An odyssey of craft beer in Ho Chi Minh!

I had a week in Vietnam and spent time in both Hanoi and HCMC. Both cities were remarkable for different reasons. I really enjoyed the buzz of HCMC, Hem knew I was so looking forward to discovering more about Vietnamese food, it was incredible to be able to transition from Vietnamese fine dining to rustic street food in the same day. Having the option of bedside pho in the hotel really helped on days when we needed a break. Our personalised bike tours were an amazing way to showcase the rich history of Vietnam and the hospitality of its people.
