Event Description
Uzbekistan was on my bucket list for the time since I learned its history at SOAS (School of Oriental Arts and Studies) and it did not disappoint. A beautiful country with such a varied history and vibrant traditions, with settlers as far back as 6th Century. Uzbekistan at the heart of Central Asia, is well known for the key cities on the legendary Silk route.
Learn about the rich history of Uzbekistan through the intricate architecture in the cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. Prepare to be dazzled by the Persian inspired domes and the turquoise blue geometric patterns with intricate tile work.
Khiva was a major trading hub on the Silk Road and this historic city in Uzbekistan has been awarded the title of Tourism Capital of the Islamic World for 2024. Samarkand, one of the most ancient cities is also known as the city of Scheherezade in The Thousand and One Nights. Bukhara lies between these two cities and is a fascinating example of an unspoiled medieval Central Asian town with its well maintained mosques and madrassas.
