Event Description

The average person, when looking at an old photo found in a family album, may look at it for a few seconds and then pass on. When restoring the same photo I may spend a few hours looking at it in detail. I see what you may have missed. Details that may tell you more about your ancestors. Tiny fragments of information buried for decades that can be unearthed and researched. This talk will help you to look at your old photos in a different way.

  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (a recording will be available)

Meet the Host, Steve Gill

I have been a professional photographer for well over 50 years and involved in photo-restoration for the past 25 years. In 2004 I gained a PGCE to teach photography to degree level and I love passing on my knowledge to others. Since 2020 I have written four text books on identifying and dating old photos which has meant plenty of research into the subject of family photography. I have given hundreds of talks on subjects related to family photography and in 2022 was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in the area of specialist photo education. I was also awarded title of Accredited Senior in Imaging in the Creative Industries. I am now researching the effects of AI on the future of photo genealogy.

What if I can’t make the event?

If a recording’s available for the event, you can still register for it and we will send you an email with a link to a recording shortly after it ends.

Will my camera be on and will I be visible to the other people?

Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy the event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.

How do I watch the live event?

Rest Less events are hosted on Zoom, a computer application that allows you to attend online events just by clicking a link. For detailed instructions, please go to our "FAQ" page, which you can find a link to in the nav bar at the top of the page.
