Event Description

Highlights of British Museum

See the highlights of one of the greatest museums in the world and hear its amazing stories from a former official British Museum tour guide. We choose our favourite objects from across the globe and bring them alive, looking up original locations where they were found and tell their stories. We choose the highlights of important objects from 5 continents, tell the stories behind them and how they got to the museum.

Trafalgar Square

This is the story of the most famous square in London, a place filled with many stories,  a place of a memorial to teenage love , a place of violent punishment , a place of celebrations and protests and first and foremost it’s a memorial for a decisive naval victory and England's greatest hero.

A stroll down the Strand

The road called the Strand beside the River Thames is barely a mile long yet has so much to tell about the city. Let’s all go down the Strand (have a banana!). And let’s do it virtually with old photos, paintings, Google Earth street views, lots of stories and a few laughs on the way. You can even bring a banana.

It housed the riverside palaces of the Savoy, Somerset House and the Duke of Buckingham. There’s an Egyptian obelisk on the embankment built to house a huge sewer. Close by is Benjamin Franklin’s house, then there’s the bustle of Trafalgar square and the idyllic gardens of Temple where there’s a 900 year old Crusader church and close by, the Royal Courts of Justice.

The Houses of Parliament Virtual Tour: The story of how we came to power

Room by fascinating room, in 360 degrees, let’s discover the thousand year old history of how we got the vote. We’ll sky-dive in to London and go in to many parts of the Houses of Parliament building, visit its ornate Gothic rooms, the bustling Members’ lobby, the austere Westminster Hall, feel the heat of the debating chambers and several more.

This virtual tour covers the turbulent history in the birth of British democracy, a constant battle between monarch and parliament with gunpowder plots, a civil war, a royal execution, a fire and world war two bombs. We’ll look at pivotal moments and their impact on us today, from the Magna Carta, the Barons’ Revolt, the Bill of rights, the model parliament and votes for women.

  • Duration: 60 mins x 4
