- DURATION 60 mins x 5
Event Description
This five week course is aimed at complete beginners or anybody who has forgotten all the Italian they ever learnt!
It will cover what you need for basic communication on a trip to Italy, making sure you don’t starve or die of thirst as well as helping you to find your way around and buy tickets for trains and museums, alongside bite-sized grammar sessions - especially designed not to be terrifying!
Weeks 1 & 2
In the first two weeks you’ll learn how to greet someone, how to order food and drink in cafes and restaurants (making sure you don’t end up with just a glass of milk when you really want your early morning coffee hit!) and how to ask for the bill. We’ll also look at some of the things the waiter might say to you to help you give an appropriate response.
Weeks 3 & 4
In the second two weeks, you’ll learn the words for various places around town that you might want to visit as a tourist as well as learning how to ask where they are and understanding some simple directions
Week 5
In this final week, we’ll cover buying tickets and finish up with a celebration of everything you have learnt over the course.
If you aren’t familiar with the numbers 1 – 10 in Italian then you might like to watch the video on this page before the course starts.

Sally-Jayne Braisby has had a lifelong love of languages and has wanted to speak French since she was just two years old. After enjoying modern and ancient languages at school, she did a degree in French and Spanish. Following a successful career in language-related jobs, including finance in the City of London, project management in the translation industry and exports in manufacturing, she returned to university and trained as a teacher. Never one to do things by halves, she decided to qualify for both primary and secondary education. She is now a full-time private tutor, teaching mainly languages, maths and English, including English as a foreign language. She is passionate about helping everyone learn, no matter their background, and about sharing her love of languages with the world.
