Event Description

Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire is one of the most important sites in the history of the modern world, as it was in this relatively obscure part of England that the industrial revolution really began. These two talks will explore how and why that came about, the role of the Darby family at Coalbrookdale, the most important innovations, the other industries that grew up in the area, and of course the construction of the world's first iron bridge, which gives the area its name. As always there will be lots of great photos of the most important sites, and fascinating stories about the people involved. The talks will give you a great insight into the significance of Ironbridge Gorge and why it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Sight.

There will be two Rest Less talks on this topic. Please make sure to sign up to both, thank you!

  • Duration: 2 x 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)
