Event Description
The Scottish royal house of Stuart came to the English throne in 1603.
For just over a century they presided over a tumultuous change in Britain:
One king was executed, one king was forced to abdicate and one king had to hide in an oak tree.
A civil war between the crown and Parliament
The last great bubonic plague, the Great Fire of London and the Great Storm of 1703.
Apprentice Boys, Orange Men and the battle of the Boyle
The political union of England and Scotland.
The last battle on English soil.
And let’s not forget Britain’s experiment with republicanism.
