- DURATION 60 mins
Event Description
Join Amy with some kitchen basics and create something unexpected! This is an experimental workshop where we try things out just to see what will happen! No experience necessary – please join in for the joy of trying a new technique, which you can then continue to explore after the workshop.
During this session we will introduce you to marbling paper and card stock using food colouring and oil. These papers can be used and developed following the workshop and lend themselves to future craft and art projects, such as collage, card making, wrapping paper and as backgrounds for printmaking.
Together, we will play with food colouring, mixing them with oil before dripping them onto water. During the workshop we can share what we are creating and discuss what works well and what doesn’t, learning from each other.
Put on your old clothes/ apron/ gloves, find a clean surface to work on, or place newspaper on a surface to protect it.
Materials you will need:
- Paper and/ or card
- Food colouring in a variety of colours, or the colours you have available. One colour is absolutely fine if that’s what you have around.
- Veg oil
- Small pots (one for each colour you wish to mix up). I will be using old yogurt pots etc.
- Deep baking/ enamel/ foil tray – for water. This should be large enough for you to place your chosen paper/ card onto the surface. Ideally around A4 in size.
- Water – you will need to fill your water tray with at least 1”/ 3cm of water. You may wish to refresh this during the workshop.
- Newspaper or newsprint – to protect your surfaces when laying your marbling papers out to dry. (They will be wet and oily)
- Fork – to whisk the food colouring and oil together.
- A teaspoon/ pipette to drip the food colouring onto the surface of the water, and to mix the inks. Wooden or metal cutlery is fine.
- Toothpicks/ fork – to move the food colouring inks across the surface of the water
- Duration: 60 mins
